A social networking site connecting patients and families.
This social networking website will help connect patients and families from around the world – and let them share their stories, experiences and knowledge (about doctors, hospitals, medical advances/ treatments available, etc.).
The site will be a ‘virtual’ waiting room where patients and families will get to connect with, and learn from each other – so that when it is their turn to meet with their doctors, they have all the knowledge and information needed to ask the relevant questions and make the right decisions.
This social networking site will allow patients and their families to form virtual communities around specific topics of interest or medical conditions..and let anyone, “from any part of the world” to be a part of this virtual community..and come together to: – meet with (through IM, voice and video chats) each other – host virtual get-together sessions – exchange personal stories and experiences with each other – learn about treatment options, (drug)trials, research, etc. – get to know what (treatment) worked and more importantly, what did not work for others – share knowledge on advances in specific medical fields in their respective countries – share information and feedback on doctors/ hospitals – organize themselves to collectively influence healthcare legislation within their states, countries and regions..
And most importantly, benefit from the collective knowledge and wisdom of the crowd!

Accra Ghana-West AfricaI think this is a great idea. In fact just knowing that people care for , think about and pray for you alone is healing. Now hearing about how others handled similar situations and what other options are available for your ailments should bring solace to those still ignorant about new developments. I am not a medical person but am interested in this. How will I bring be able to know and be abreast with the latest and acceptable alternatives to the medical profession, when it is known that they do not accept alternatives easily. How many people in Africa and India will be able to effectively participate in this virtual mission.

Hyderabad IndiaGreat idea; would like to see how this would evolve for subgroups on, say autism, thalassaemia, hip replacements etc. There are focused YahooGoups etc. on these and linking to some of the regional sites for the same would be one of the contributions through this social networking mission.
