One way to pass the ball would be to help our students begin to send a kind of “link letter”. That’s what I call a short written message from one student to another student who is not in his geographical area. The message would express hope, humor, or encouragement. It could include an idea or custom or animal or flower that is unique to the writer’s area. The recipient then writes another message and sends it to yet another student and so on. The link letter(s) will go round the world. This can be done by classes of young students. Each envelope would say Link Letter clearly on the outside, continuing the idea wherever it goes. Where to do this? In the classroom. With what materials? Paper and colorful writing utensils. How to send? Through standard mail systems from school to school, country to country. Does any student have to put his name on the letter? No. How to pay for it? Each writer gets his parent’s or guardian’s permission to participate and gets an envelope and a stamp or two from same. All messages are approved by parent/guardian and school administration before sending out. This is just one way to get it done..there are many possibilities. It’s a positive message for kids and a lift for the world. Is there a better time than now? We can absolutely do this!
